This guide will teach you how to jailbreak and unlock 3.1.3 using PwnageTool 3.1.5 for OS X.
NOTE: 3.1.3 is a minor firmware revision, it isn't an upgrade you need, and upgrading is rather pointless so don't bother. Many want to upgrade to 3.1.3 anyways while keeping their unlock and jailbreak so we are publishing this guide to make sure it's done safely and correctly. Read closely, if there is something you don't understand then ask first, not later.
If you have already upgraded to 3.1.3 then don't follow this guide. iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G users with the new bootrom that have upgraded to 3.1.3 you are SOL so don't follow ANY 3.1.3 jailbreak guide – watch the homepage we'll tell you if/when you can jailbreak and how. iPod Touch 3G users you can not jailbreak 3.1.3 right now so do not upgrade and do not try.
Once again I repeat if you have already upgraded to 3.1.3 you can not follow the steps below! You must have your device ALREADY jailbroken on firmware lower than 3.1.3 to continue!
Devices that can be Jailbroken following this guide:
iPhone 3GS (OLD BOOTROM ONLY. If the 4th/5th digits of the serial # are before 40 the you should have the old bootrom. If your current jailbreak is tethered DO NOT try this.)
iPhone 3G
iPhone 2G
iPod Touch 2G (OLD BOOTROM ONLY. If your current jailbreak is tethered you have the new bootrom so stay away and/or If your model # starts with MC you likely have the new bootrom so stay away!)
iPod Touch 1G
This guide can unlock the following models:
All iPhone 2G
iPhones with 04.26.08 Baseband
You can find your baseband via your phone. Settings->General->About
iPhones with 05.11.07 can not be unlocked on firmware 3.1.3 right now
From the Dev Team:
"If you use the blacksn0w unlock (at baseband 05.11.07), you need to stay at 3.1.2 . . . iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from . . . all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak."
If your device is not listed above as Jailbreakable by this guide stop now.
If your device is not listed above as unlockable then you can not unlock right now period.
Download and Install PwnageTool 3.1.5
Run PwnageTool 3.1.5, Click OK.
We're going to use Simple mode from this guide. If you know what you're doingyou can select Expert mode to further customize your .IPSW. Select your device and click the arrow.
PwnageTool Will search your computer for firmware. Choose the correct firmware that you downloaded earlier. If it is unable to find the firmware you will get the option to manually select the file you downloaded earlier. Click the arrow.
Click Yes to save the custom .IPSW file on your desktop or No to choose where you would like to save it.
If you're an iPhone user choose whether you activate with a valid carrier via iTunes or if you want PwnageTool to activate your iPhone for you. iPod Touch users skip this step.
PwnageTool works its magic.
At some point you will be asked to authenticate. Enter your password and click OK.
PwnageTool will ask if your device has been Pwned before. Select Yes and PwangeTool puts your device in recovery mode. Select No and PwnageTool jailbreaks your device and then puts it in recovery mode:
PwnageTool doesn't require your 3GS-with-older-bootrom be already jailbroken. It'll jailbreak it on the fly as long as you're at 3.1.2 or lower (that's what that last "Are you already jailbroken?" question is for…if you're not already jailbroken, it'll jailbreak it right then and there).
Close PwnageTool.
Start iTunes. iTunes will acknowledge that it has detected your device in recovery mode. Click OK.
Hold the Option key and Click Restore.
Browse to the custom .IPSW that PwnageTool made. It will either be located on your desktop or where ever you chose to save it earlier in this guide.
iTunes restores the custom .IPSW onto your device.
We're almost all done!
Your device will restart and iTunes is ready to set up your Device! Congrats welcome to jailbroken 3.1.3.
iPhone 2G users to unlock (assuming you didn't tell Pwnagetool to do it during the process) connect to a wifi network, fire up Cydia, search for and install Bootneuter.
iPhone 3G/3GS users with the 04.26.08 baseband you can connect to a Wifi network, open Cydia, and search for and install Ultrasn0w to unlock.
