This guide will teach you how to jailbreak and unlock 3.1.3 using sn0wbreeze for Windows XP, Vista, 7 (32 or 64 bit).
NOTE: 3.1.3 is a minor firmware revision, it isn't an upgrade you need, and upgrading is rather pointless so don't bother. Many want to upgrade to 3.1.3 anyways while keeping their unlock and jailbreak so we are publishing this guide to make sure it's done safely and correctly. Read closely, if there is something you don't understand then ask first, not later.
This guide requires that your device is already jailbroken on firmware lower than 3.1.3. For example I am making this guide using a jailbroken 3.1.2 iPhone 3GS with the old bootrom and baseband 5.11.07 (which isn't unlockable but is jailbreakable to 3.1.3 safely without updating the baseband).
Once again I repeat if you have already upgraded to 3.1.3 you can not follow the steps below! You must have your device ALREADY jailbroken on firmware lower than 3.1.3 to continue!
Devices that can be Jailbroken following this guide:
iPhone 3GS (OLD BOOTROM ONLY. If the 4th/5th digits of the serial # are before 40 the you should have the old bootrom. If your current jailbreak is tethered DO NOT try this.)
iPhone 3G
iPhone 2G
iPod Touch 2G (OLD BOOTROM ONLY. If your current jailbreak is tethered you have the new bootrom so stay away and/or If your model # starts with MC you have the new bootrom so stay away!)
iPod Touch 1G
This guide can unlock the following models:
All iPhone 2G
iPhones with 04.26.08 Baseband
The Dev Team has published more recommendations:
"If you use the blacksn0w unlock (at baseband 05.11.07), you need to stay at 3.1.2 . . . iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from . . . all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak."
You can find your baseband via your phone. Settings->General->About
If your device is not listed above as Jailbreakable by this guide stop now.
If your device is not listed above as unlockable then you can not unlock right now period.

Click the arrow.
Now we need to find the .IPSW you downloaded earlier. Click Browse.
Browse to the .IPSW you downloaded for your device and click Open.
Warning telling you you already need to be jailbroken and have the old bootrom. The message will have different warnings depending on your device. Click I UNDERSTAND!
The .IPSW you selected has been verified. Click the arrow.
sn0wbreeze goes about creating a custom pwnd .ISPW
iPod Touch users skip this step. iPhone users sn0wbreeze will ask you if you want the pwnd .IPSW to be activated. If you have your iPhone on a legitament carrier and activate via iTunes click no. If you unlock your phone in order to use it on your carrier click yes.
sn0wbreeze continues building the custom .IPSW
Look it has finished. sn0wbreeze will have saved your custom .IPSW on your desktop. Click Ok and exit sn0wbreeze.
We need to enter recovery mode for this next part. Turn your device off and make sure it isn't connected to your computer. Start iTunes. Hold the home button of your device and plug it in. This process will start your device in recovery mode. iTunes will tell you that it has detected your device in recover mode. Click OK.
Now you'll be at the screen below. We need to browse to the custom .IPSW created with sn0wbreeze. Hold the Shift key on your keyboard while clicking restore using your mouse.

iTunes does its thing restoring the custom firmware onto your device.
Once done your device restarts and iTunes is ready to set up!
